EXTRACT FROM THE CHT PEACE AGREEMENT:

“Keeping full and answered allegiance in Bangladesh’s state sovereignty and territorial integrity in Bangladesh’s Chittagong Hill Tracts region under the jurisdiction if the Constitution if the People’s Republic of Bangladesh, the National Committee on Hill Tracts, on behalf of the government of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh and Parbattaya Chattagram Jana Sanghati Samity, on behalf of the inhabitants of the Chittagong Hill Tracts, reached the following agreement in four parts, to uphold the political, social, cultural, educational and economic rights of the people of the Hill Tracts Region, to expedite socio-economic development process and preserve respective rights of all citizens of Bangladesh and their development”. During the insurgency period, the all development activities were stopped, so more infrastructure was created and existing “integrated socio-economic condition” was broken. The CHT people became poor, illiterate, unawareness about their needs, lost their shelter; the rate of child date was increased, illiteracy rate was increased. Due to becoming refugee in India and political war, children became parentless, fatherless, and motherless. So, after the peace agreement, we the a few energetic person thought to do development activities poor community and rootless children side by side government, NGOs and other development agencies. By discussing the all members formed the CHT based NGO in 1998, which is Jumchab Metta Foundation.
